Coaches Registration

We are excited to launch the Coaches Licensing Program for the Colorado League's inaugural season! The Coaches Licensing Program, devised by NICA, was established in 2008 in an effort to ensure that Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Ride Leaders are trained in the best practices of youth mountain bike coaching.

With the Colorado League coming together for its first season, the Coaches Licensing Program will be rolling out in two phases. For 2010, all Colorado League coaches are only required to obtain a General Volunteer License. The basic requirements of the General Volunteer License are:

1. A background check ($24, a one-time requirement – not annual)

2. A license fee ($25)

3. Mail in the signed waiver

Obtaining your license provides the League's comprehensive liability insurance and ensures that basic youth worker precautions are being made.

In the long run, the only volunteers required to obtain a higher level license are Head Coaches. However in 2010 all Head Coaches should attend the 2010 Colorado Leaders Summit – all teams are required to have a Head Coach attend the Leaders Summit (working towards a Head Coaches License). A penalty fee ($50) applies to teams that do not have a Head Coach in attendance at the June 5/6 Leaders Summit.

The League will be introducing other opportunities for coaches to work towards a higher license. The Leaders Summit, scheduled for June 5/6, 2010, is a great opportunity to learn about working with kids in a mountain bike environment, learn proven techniques for running high school team practices and managing the associated risks.

The website will be updated by April with additional information about the Leaders' Summit and other opportunities for coaches.

To be clear, NICA will not administer these higher level licenses (Head Coach, Asst. Coach and Ride Leader) in Colorado until 2011 (as no coaches will be eligible until 2011 given the requirements). In 2010 all adult volunteers riding with club/team riders should obtain a General Volunteer License in order to be fully insured.
